********NEED SOME SWEETENER IN YOUR LIFE?**********
I tell you, I just love the stuff. I got some grapefruit juice that was
rather bitter. I put a sprinkle of Stevia in it and it took the edge off.
My husband gets it in his coffee and he can’t tell the difference. I tell
ya, this is getting to be one of my fav. products and it takes so little,
that I just use the handle of the scoop to measure what I need. It sure is
great. RS

A NOTE FROM RANDAL
In this newsletter I have included some links in the Herb/Vitamin section
and Health News that are hot off the presses. I have found some sites that
will provide some up to the minute information on various topics.
I like seeing the abundance of articles related to herbs, vitamins and
natural approaches. It sure is a far cry from when we first started into
the natural health field.
I have seen some articles suggesting Kava may be dangerous. I don’t know
where that will be leading but I have noticed Nature’s Sunshine has already
reformulated X Action for Women without the Kava. If our site lists Kava
for an ingredient check with us to see if its been reformulated without the
Kava.
This is one of the many reasons I am comfortable with using Nature’s
Sunshine because of their far thinking and protection of all consumers of
their products. They don’t take risks with our health and well being.
This issue is a little late because we took some time to go see a whale
watch over at Virginia Beach. The weather was too windy to go out on
Saturday and today it was too windy and foggy. However, we did get to see
some magnificent whale scenes at the IMAX theatre. Sure makes me glad that
we have laws to protect them now at least in some countries.
Can’t imagine anyone wanting to deliberately hurt such a majestic creature!
Thank you for sharing this ezine with your friends and making it such a
great success! We are now over 2700 strong and we couldn’t have done it
without your support and encouragement.
Until next time,Randal*****************

ECHINACEA: A NATURAL REMEDY FOR THE COMMON COLD AND FLU?
Echinacea (pronounced eck-in-ay’-shuh) is among the best-selling herbal
remedies in the United States, accounting for 8% of total sales of botanical
remedies. This is a great article detailing scientific evidence on the
effectiveness of echinacea.

HEALTH NEWS
THE WORLD’S BEST CEREAL
From Pathway to Healing
Sent in by Linda Calhoun
Most people would not argue with you about the value of cereal. Certain
types of cereals (not the sugarcoated Super Smacks) are associated with
incredible health benefits. According to a study done in 1999, a high intake
of dietary fiber, typically found in cereal, actually reduces cardiovascular
and heart disease, insulin levels, and even prevents weight gain.
Isn’t it ironic that a carbohydrate prevents weight gain? Cereal is a
specific form of carbohydrate known as a complex carbohydrate. Increasing
fiber intake from cereal can lower insulin levels and protect us against
diabetes as well as obesity.
In fact, a study of almost 3,000 adults showed that, across the board, the
higher the dietary fiber intake, the lower the coronary heart disease risk
factors. Blood pressure and triglyceride levels were lower. Good, or
protective, HDL levels were higher. Obesity was lower. Actually, the amount
of fiber in the diet (or lack thereof) was more predictive of heart disease
risk factors than was fat intake. The higher the fiber intake, the lower the
rate of heart attacks.
Oatmeal is the only natural grain cereal that contains both of the
beneficial types of fiber known as soluble and insoluble fiber. From a
natural cereal point of view, oatmeal would get my vote for the world’s
healthiest. The insoluble fiber reduces the risk of diverticulosis and
diverticulitis as well as other colon disorders. The soluble fiber portion
of oatmeal, known as beta glucan, literally soaks up fatty particles before
they can be absorbed — thereby reducing cholesterol levels.
The commercial cereal Bran Buds is a close second to oatmeal in health
benefits. This contains a combination of wheat bran but adds the soluble
fiber from psyllium husks. The benefits approximate that of oatmeal simply
because of the combination of both fibers.
Most cereals on the market only have one type of fiber. In fact, many of the
cereals are actually very low in overall fiber. I recommend 1/3 to 1/2 cup
of either of the above cereals daily.

LAUGHING LINES
Laughter is Good Medicine!
SCARED?
As a sergeant in a parachute regiment I took part in several night-time
exercises. Once, I was seated next to a Lieutenant fresh from Jump School.
He was quiet sad looked a bit pale so I struck up a conversation.
“Scared, Lieutenant?”, I asked.
He replied, “No, just a bit apprehensive.”
I asked, “What’s the difference?”
He replied, “That means I’m scared with a university education.”
