A Healing Moment – Rejection: The Branches, Trunk and Roots – The Herbs Place

REJECTION

Now that we’ve discussed the lines that rejection can take in our lives, we realize that we have to get to the root of health or emotional problems that relate to rejection. We have to cut the roots, not prune the branches, not even cut the trunk to knock the tree down. Unless the roots are cut, there will still be sprouts growing and taking over your life again.

Let’s see how Derek Prince explains this relating the trees branches, trunk and roots to our problems. Let’s start with the branches. These can be called “sins” – things such as lying, swearing, immorality, addictions, overeating, etc. These are the things that people try to overcome. Much religious activity is directed at lopping off these branches. Such as giving up smoking, losing the weight, no longer swearing or lying, stopping the pornography. All those things are good, but!……

If you only chop off the branches [get rid of the specific sin], you are not getting at the root of the problem. That root will feed the tree and send forth new shoots and you’ll have a whole new set of sins [branches].

The trunk of the tree is “sin.” Not sins, but sin. Sin is what causes sins. It’s the evil side of life, the spiritual power that works in people to drive them to the sins they commit. The “flesh” or the “old man” it is sometimes called.

Sin and sins [trunk and branches] are both above the surface of the problem.. The roots are what we want to put an axe to. Derek Prince considers the root as the “self” – the “I” – the “ego.”

He believes that’s the root, and even those who have faced the fact of sin haven’t always dealt with the problem of self, so the problems will continue..

Henry Wright believes that rejection is at the root of autoimmune diseases. We are a generation of sick people. Is it not bad enough that outside sources of bacteria and viruses are constantly attacking us? With autoimmune diseases, our bodies are attacking themselves. We are being eaten alive by our beliefs and thoughts.

Scripture’s answer to the problem of rejection is radical [this word comes from the Latin word for root]. God changes lives! Not temporarily, not superficially, but radically!!

The cross is where God provided the solution to all our problems. Jesus dealt with rejection. It was an EXCHANGE! A divinely appointed exchange. On the cross, to satisfy eternal, divine justice, God caused to meet together upon Jesus all the evil that was due by justice to the human race, so that in return, by faith, the one who repents and believes may receive all the good that is due by justice to Jesus.

This exchange process is more than you may have ever thought about! We’ll cover the matter of the exchange and see how to cut the roots of rejection in the next issue.
