The weather here in Virginia has made it a gorgeous week with a continual struggle to be outside or with this machine.  At times I took the machine outside and had both.  The colors are coming through in the forest behind us and the Red Maples are the prettiest of all along with the gum trees.

We’re thinking about a trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway or I-81 to enjoy the season before Winter hits.  Life is such a gift and too often we take the "same" road when the high one beckons to us for reasons we don’t always take the time to discover.

As I type this a Carolina Wren sits on the deck post and shouts for joy while he dances around enjoying the day.  Not a care … knowing he is well provided for by the hand of God.  Daily provision.  What a grand reminder that we don’t have to live under the taskmaster phrase of, "If it’s to be, it’s up to me."  We are promised our daily provision also and we are so grateful to be Sharing Sunshine and get paid for it.  

Having y’all as part of the family / team / group and as friends is also a provision for which we are also thankful.  This month is the month to focus on Thanksgiving, so I hope your thoughts are filled with all the blessings of your life.  Sometimes it’s easier to look at the troubles and problems, but when we look around at all the blessings there are more than enough to cover up the problems.

Webcast and TeleConference on New Weight Loss Product

NSP will have a webcast / tele conference on Nature’s Hoodia (see information below) next week on Thursday, November 9 at 6 PM Pacific, 7:00 PM Mountain, 8:00 PM Central, 9:00 PM Eastern

New Policy on Free Shipping for New Members

Effective December 1, 2005, free shipping will no longer be offered to new members.  Instead they will have the opportunity to receive free shipping on their 2nd order (placed within 90 days), to encourage them to reorder.  They will still be getting the 20% off electronic coupon added to their account, so the two discounts provide a great incentive for reorders, which we all need to see happening.

New NSP A to Z Book Now Available

This version has a brand new look and includes an addendum that highlights new products and recent product changes.  If you ordered an A to Z after May 2005, an addendum will be merged with your next product order.  This is a great reference tool that you’ll want to keep handy.

Where Are You?

Is it easy for customers to find you when they want to buy? A well-planned visibility campaign will put you in front of lots of people in many different ways. However, it’s true that people don’t always act immediately. Make sure you don’t miss out on business by making it easy for them to find you and contact you when they’re ready.

First, have several ways you can be reached. Customers can reach me through my website and email, phone (including toll-free), fax and mail. If it is important for customers to reach you immediately, consider giving out mobile phone and/or pager numbers.

Make your contact information easy to remember. If you have your own domain, choose something easy to say and remember. When you use an odd spelling, abbreviations, special characters, etc. it makes it harder to give your URL orally. I chose "IdeaLady.com" because it’s short and simple. When I refer someone to my website, it’s easy for me to say, and easy for them to understand and remember. I considered using my name as my domain name, but then thought of all the ways people spell my name. Between Cathy and Kathy, and all the variations I’ve seen on Stucker, no one would ever find me!

Also remember to keep simplicity and clarity in mind when choosing an email address. For example, gdnews4u would have to be given as "g-d-n-e-w-s, the number 4, the letter u" to be perfectly clear. If it was just "goodnews" it’s easier to say and remember.

You may be able to request a special phone number from your local phone company, such as 222-HELP, or a toll-free number that spells something related to your business. When I got my toll-free number, I wanted something that I could give out during radio interviews. I knew that many of the people listening would not be where they could write it down, and wanted to keep it simple. I usually do radio interviews to promote books, so I wanted something with "book" in it. The number I got is 888-BOOK-888.

Consider the following to make sure customers can find you:

How will customers want to contact you? Online? Via phone or fax? What is their technology comfort level?

If they are placing an order, will they want to speak with a human? Or will they be willing to send ordering information electronically?

From where will they get your contact information? Will they click on a link on the web or in email? Will they read your phone number off a printed document? Will they be looking for your product or service in a search engine? Or, will they get your information orally? Will they have to key in a URL or phone number from memory?

How urgent will their need be? Will they need to reach you, a staff member or answering service immediately? Or will they be willing to leave a message or send email?

Make it easy for customers to find you, contact you and do business with you, and you won’t lose business that should be yours!

One of the best audit proofing techniques that all small business owners should do is to have separate credit cards used solely for business expenses. The importance of this can not be over stated.

 Separate cards will result in keeping better records for business expenses. In addition, by using certain credit cards solely for business, you can also deduct any interest that you have incurred.

TIP: If you are going to owe some interest on a credit card, always owe it on cards used for business. You will be able to deduct all the interest on these cards. However, interest incurred on cards used personally are not deductible.

Finally, another benefit of using some credit cards solely for business is that you can deduct all the annual fees on the card. Thus, if you pay $60 per year as a fee for using you American Express card that is used solely for business, you may deduct the full $60 as a business expense.

If you don’t use a credit card solely for business, IRS requires you to allocate the interest and credit card fees based on the business usage of your card. Thus, if you don’t use certain credit cards solely for business, you will have to trace all your expenses each month and allocate those expenses between business and personal.

Hopefully, now that I have convinced you to use one or more credit cards solely for business, the next question is: which one should I use? I like American Express. Yes, they do charge a high fee! However, American Express gives you some benefits that other cards don’t.

First, and foremost, they give you copies of all your charge slips, not just monthly statements. This can be very beneficial if you are audited. Secondly, they will give frequent flyer points that can be used on many airlines. These points can be carried over forever. They never run out as do many other frequent flyer points.

The key here is that you must request American Express to be placed in their frequent flyer program. They won’t tell you about it if you don’t ask.

In short, having one or more credit cards used solely for business is a great idea. It will certainly make your record keeping a lot less complicated and make your life less taxing!

News Within The Family

We’re excited to have our son, Ben, make Manager level this month. He decided to get back in the business last month after convention while we were on our trip to Yellowstone. We’re thrilled to have family in our Sunshine Family and look forward to being outdone online. Ben’s knowledge of the use of the internet is far beyond ours so I’m sure he has a lot of creative ways to build business.

Robin Sockness and her husband will be at dinner this evening with Jon Terry  from Nature’s Sunshine.  He’s the Southern Regional Support person at NSP and called her earlier this week to invite them to dinner and talk about what Robin wants to do with her NSP business.  He says he’s been hearing her name quite a bit around Home Office and she shows up on his reports.  Being such a great "pet specialist," Nature’s Sunshine asked Robin a long time ago if they could refer to her when people call with pet questions.  She’s gotten a number of new members that way.  Helping animals and getting paid for it makes Robin one very Happy Sunshine Camper!

Congratulations to John and Roxanne Howlett, in TN, who broke out another Manager in October while that Manager broke out a Manager under him in the same month.  He’s got a duplicatable system and monthly goals for his NSP business, so sounds like a focused guy.  Little Matthew is growing and sitting up by himself now. One of our distributors, Susan Childs, in AL, also made Manager in October. She’s really enjoys the essential oils and has always been a creative person making all kinds of gifts and crafts.

Jennifer Valentine, in WI, is enjoying her new shop and customers and clients are increasing. She’s about to finish her Natural Health Consultant program from Tree of Light and a Health Practitioner course. She’s been a busy girl with such a desire to help others.

Our thoughts have been with Susan Chavis, in NC, who has dealt with deaths and other issues in the past month. She’s got a strong connection to herself and is moving forward with life by helping others. She signed up her first distributor (mentioned above).
