A Note From Randal and Donna

We’re getting ready to head out for Nature’s Sunshine’s Leaders Conference in Costa Mesa, CA.  I do not mind leaving this cold Virginia weather behind for a while. 

We will be taking a few extra days off after the conference to spend a day with the Allred’s, our sponsors, and also to meet with one of our very first distributors, Lynn Wright.  She’s been with us over 20 years and now lives in Palmdale, CA.  We all lived in Alabama back when she signed up and we haven’t seen her in about 16 years.

NSP always has exciting things to tell us at these conferences and conventions, so we are looking forward to lots of exciting news to share with you.  I will be sending out a special mailing of all the news we gather there when we return. 

One of the things we will find out about is where the next Top Achiever’s Club (TAC) trip will be.  This is a trip you can earn if your rank is Area Manager or above.  The last TAC trip was to China.  You can see the information on that here while it is still available:  www.naturessunshine.com/members/events/tac2.asp

Nature’s Sunshine provides plenty of travel rewards for Sharing Sunshine.  We have been blessed to have been around the world with NSP.  I hope you’re setting your goals to be on the Convention Cruise with us in October.  Details below.

Hopefully you’ve already dug into your new year’s goals and are passing your greatest expectations and dreams.  One of my dreams has been to go to the Amazon and to return to Costa Rica, a place that I considered to be what my little piece of Heaven will be like.  This year we’ll celebrate our 30th anniversary and I’m just determined to pray and work hard enough to make it happen.

Monthly Toll-Free Product Focus Call

This month’s topic is Colds and Flu – excellent information for you to help those around you (and maybe your own family?).  Make plans to be on this call!  Adding knowledge bit by bit on the NSP product line is key to you seeing opportunites to share Nature’s Sunshine products.

Each month the NSP Training Department offers intense training on one NSP product.  Product Focus Meetings are conducted via a tele-conference call and are available, at no cost, to anyone who has a touch-tone phone.  Feel free to share the number with clients and friends. During this meeting, health experts from both inside and outside NSP will provide in-depth information on how to use the product and how it can improve your health.

Business Tip:  Do You Do Drop Ships?

You can drop ship an order anywhere that NSP ships, so if you’ve got friends or family across the country, in Puerto Rico, etc. and they don’t want to become a member, you can drop ship products to them.

Since you need 100 personal QV each month to qualify for a bonus check, your drop ships count as personal QV, so it’s a good way to build your minimum QV.

If you process drop-ships on the main NSP site under your account number, the order includes an invoice just like when you place and order and receive it.  The invoice shows who ordered (you) and who you shipped it to.

To direct the person back to your My NSP site, rather than the main site, you might want to add your website address to your account information.  We have our personal information shown this way with NSP:

Tax Tip:  Take the Federal Excise Tax Deduction

If you’ve had telephone service from 2003 to 2006 or any time therein, you can get a $30 to $60 deduction on your 2006 tax return.  The best site that I’ve found in layman’s terms is at Snopes.com.  Access the info here and which line on your return to use to claim this deduction here:  www.snopes.com/business/taxes/excise.asp

Build Your Herbal Business without a Storefront

You don’t have to have a retail location to succeed at selling NSP products. Two Regional Managers from Ohio share their secrets for succeeding without a storefront. Featuring Barb Hribar and Pat Cassidy.

Sunshine Horizons recently spoke with Barb Hribar of Seven Hills, Ohio and Pat Cassidy of Parma Heights, Ohio, two successful Regional Managers who run their NSP businesses strictly out of their homes. A synopsis of their comments follows.

It’s a Job of “Sorts” (Barb Hribar)

“Building my herbal business has stemmed largely from one basic principle – keeping an ear open. I’m always listening to the things people say. They often mention the health concerns of their family members as if these important issues are small talk. ‘Tommy’s had this runny nose for a week now.’ I’ve learned to listen carefully in order to recognize opportunities to talk about herbs.

“Now, a lot of people out there aren’t really interested in fixing their problems. I know that sounds crazy, but I’ve found it to be true. You can’t force them to make changes. All you can do is offer your knowledge and your time. The next step is up to them.

“That’s why I’ve learned to look at building an herbal business as a way of watching people sort themselves. You aren’t deciding who will or who won’t want herbs. People will choose what they want, and nine times out of 10, you’re not going to change their minds. They’ll sort themselves into two categories: those who will and those who won’t.

“This means you can’t blame yourself if someone declines your products or chooses not to attend your meetings. Go easy on yourself, and just keep sharing the message you have about herbs. The more people with whom you share your knowledge, the better your odds of sharing products.”

Be a Friend

“I’ve really gotten to the point where I don’t think of prospecting as finding new customers. I think of it as making friends. I’m actually an introverted person, who doesn’t have a natural tendency to be the center of attention. But that hasn’t stopped me, because I really want to help people.

“So I don’t worry about how much product I might be able to sell to any certain person. If your friend came to you with a problem, your first concern would be to help, and that’s my philosophy. And the more friends you make, the greater your circle of influence will become.

“Now I would guess that no more than 10 percent of the strangers we approach in this business actually sign up. That means the biggest job you have is to share it with everyone you possibly can. And there are countless ways to do that, and raising a storefront is only one way. Do you take your kids to soccer games? Swimming lessons? Do you attend PTA meetings? Opportunities to talk to people are all around you at these kinds of gatherings.

The main thing is to keep your ears open and always be ready. I can’t think of a better way to spend your life than by making a new friend every time you can.”

You Be the Judge—and Jury! (Pat Cassidy)

“My business has always been home-based. When my kids were little, I decided I wanted to stay home with them. I guess I sort of got spoiled at being able to set my own hours.

“My situation presented me with certain challenges, because I wasn’t out there interfacing with a lot of different people in the workforce. So I had to learn to be a ‘professional eavesdropper.’ I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said to a stranger, ‘I couldn’t help overhearing you say that your child has been sick.’ You can judge when the time is right to share the message of herbs.

“Once I had a unique opportunity while I was on jury duty. During some down time, I was trying to listen to an herbal tape on my Walkman. The lady next to me struck up a conversation, and I told her I was an herbalist. She asked for my card, and it wasn’t long before the lady next to her was asking questions. A little while later, when the lawyer was screening us, he asked me what I did for a living. I told him I sold herbal supplements. That same day I found myself handing out pamphlets and business cards to the entire jury. I guess you could say I had a captive audience, but I wasn’t forcing it on anyone. The idea of herbs just sparked everyone’s interest. That same evening, one of the men on the jury caught me while I was heading for my car. ‘Herb lady, herb lady,’ he called to me. He was pointing to one of the products in the pamphlet I had given him. ‘Can you bring me a bottle of this tomorrow?’

“One of the ladies on the jury said, ‘Boy, you’re really a salesperson.’ I had to laugh. ‘How do you figure that?’ I replied. ‘I didn’t solicit anything. These people are coming to me.’

If You Plan it, They Still Might Not Come

“Having Herbal Hours and other kinds of meetings are a great way to build your business. But if people won’t come to your meeting, go to theirs!

“That’s what I did. I called the Chamber of Commerce and got a list of all of the local clubs and businesses that might be interested in my message, and I called them. I charged $20 to speak to a group, and I found great success. Charging this small fee has proven valuable. In the past, when I lectured for free, people were less apt to show interest. They tend to feel that if you don’t think your message is valuable, they shouldn’t either.

“As you actively work to increase your profile, you should start thinking of more ways to do this. Consider setting up a booth at a boutique or health fair. Sit in as a guest on a radio show. Become a vendor at a local flea market. I always have handouts and business cards for people to take home. You never know where your next customer will come from, so always be prepared.

“It has taken perseverance, but hard work has paid off for me. Now I spend most of my time building the businesses of my downline, and it’s more fun than ever!”

NSP Events:  2007 Convention Cruise Qualifications Continue

It’s not too late.  The ship is not full yet.

NSP’s eight-day Caribbean cruise will be the longest convention we’ve ever had.  They make it pretty easy to earn these anniversary conventions, so be sure you check qualifications to be on target to go.  They began on September 1 and go until May 31, 2007.  The cruise is in October 2007.  NSP will have the entire ship and it’s a ship geared for family fun, so you can bring your entire family.

If you’re not at Manager level yet, that’s your first goal.  You must be a Manager to earn convention.  If you become a new Manager during the qualification period, you can still earn convention by averaging the amount of QV required.

There are two ways to earn convention:

Method 1 – Group QV Increase

Convention for 2: Increase your monthly Group QV average during the qualification period  by at least 600 QV/month, compared to the same period in the prior year.

Convention for 1: Increase your monthly Group QV average during the qualification period  by at least 400 QV/month, compared to the same period in the prior year.

Method 2 – Total Group QV

Convention for 2: Accumulate a total of 90,000 Group QV during the qualification period.
Convention for 1: Accumulate a total of 60,000 Group QV during the qualification period.

Bonus QV: Many NSP Managers have earned Bonus QV. This Bonus QV will be applied automatically to your actual Group QV during the qualifi cation period (for both methods).

Breakout Bonus QV: You’ll receive 500 Bonus QV for each new Manager you break out during the qualification period (for both methods).

Not much of an investment to increase your knowledge one subject at a time and have the resources needed to share the information with others.  CD’s for those who prefer to listen and booklets for those who like to read.

You can build your business just by listening to what health problems people are talking about and then asking them if they would like to read (or listen to) some information on a natural health solution.

Business Tip:   Whether it’s the Untold Truth materials or any others you share, ALWAYS give them only a few days to borrow the material stating that you have somebody else you also want to share it with.  That keeps you looking for others who need it and it means you will get it back before it gets lost in somebody’s pile of books and magazines.  After the agreed amount of time (about 4-5 days) check back with them to see if they have any questions and to find out when you can pick-up the book.
