Thyroid Activator was formulated by Dr. John Christopher, noted American herbalist, who had great success using Thyroid Activator combination to supply trace elements often lacking in a normal diet. The entire glandular system is benefited, along with the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems.

A look at each herb in this combination will help explain the popularity of Thyroid Activator:

Irish moss is one of several types of seaweed growing along the shores of the north Atlantic. It is often known as carrageenan, a kind of pectin used as an emulsifier and suspension agent in many kinds of foods like puddings and jellies. Irish moss is also great as a skin softener and healer (try Nature's Sunshine Irish Moss Hand & Body Lotion).

Like other sea plants, Irish moss absorbs iodine and other trace minerals washed from the continents into the ocean. It is actually a red algae and not a moss. With about 10% protein, it is also a valuable storehouse of minerals and chlorophyll.

By itself, Irish moss has also been found to be of particular value for the respiratory and urinary systems.

Kelp plant is a type of brown seaweed that can grow as much as two feet a day! It is used as a salt substitute and contains sodium alginate, or algin, which has been shown to assist the body in ridding itself of heavy metals such as strontium90.

Sometimes referred to as the "dandelion of the ocean," kelp is packed with nutrients required by the entire glandular system, especially the thyroid. Its iodine content ranges from 0.1 to 0.5 percent. It should be noted that iodine is also required by the pituitary, adrenal and pineal glands. In its natural form, iodine in plants is absorbed more slowly and safely than isolated chemical iodine.

Black walnut hulls are one of the best sources of iodine found in land-based flora. In fact, you may even taste the iodine if you care to bite into the soft, green outer husk of the walnut. This portion of the plant also contains potassium, which helps regulate excess salt in the body. As for the iodine, it will not support parasites. By themselves, black walnut hulls are used for the digestive tract, skin, and circulatory system.

Parsley herb is famous as a digestive supplement, and supports the function of the liver. One big reason for its usefulness in several body systems is its high content of chlorophyll and minerals like calcium, potassium and iron. Helpful for healthy blood, it is often used specifically for the urinary and skeletal systems. Parsley is included in this formula to help balance and support the dietary benefits of all the other herbs.

Watercress herb grows in streams with clean, running water. It is a salad herb, and a member of the mustard family. Watercress contains vitamin C, E, provitamin A, and important minerals like iron, iodine, calcium, copper and sulphur. Herbalists refer to it as a nervine, although it is also used for the skeletal, respiratory and urinary systems.

Sarsaparilla root originated in Mexico and was introduced to Europe in the 1500s, where it became immensely popular. Native Americans used it for many purposes. In modern times, it has been used in root beer and to flavor food products such as frozen dairy desserts, candy and baked goods. Among herbalists, sarsaparilla root is used for the reproductive, glandular, digestive and circulatory systems.
