A NOTE FROM RANDAL

February is here and Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Often we
wonder where did we get these holidays. At least I do, I did some research
and found out that there was a time when it was against the law to be
married or engaged (the emperor realized the young men didn't want to go to
war and leave their families). There was a Catholic priest that resisted
the order and decided to keep marrying couples. He was caught and at this
point we get several stories. I will focus on the story he falls in love
with the jailers daughter. He leaves a note the day he is to be executed to
the jailer's daughter and signs "from your Valentine." Yes, his name was
St. Valentine and he was executed on February 14th.

This Valentine's Day let's remember St. Valentine's self-less act of
marrying those who wanted to be married with no regard for his safety.

As you know, Valentine's Day often is emphasized as a time for romantic
love. However, its a great day to love others too. Find someone that needs
a kind word or card and give it. Its so much better to give without
expecting and see that person's face light up.

Make sure you read the funny in todays issue. I am still laughing, I guess
because its not so far fetched. :-)

Pomegranates could become key in breast cancer treatment and estrogen
replacement therapy, according to studies by Israeli researchers.
Pomegranates seem to replace the estrogen often prescribed to protect
postmenopausal women against heart disease and osteoporosis, while
selectively destroying estrogen-dependent cancer cells. Pomegranate-seed oil
triggers apoptosis -- a self-destruct mechanism -- in breast cancer cells.
Also, pomegranate juice appears to destroy estrogen-dependent breast cancer
cells, while leaving normal breast cells unaffected.

FAT-FREE PIECRUST
Makes one 9-inch crust

1 cup Grape-Nuts cereal
1/4 cup apple juice concentrate (undiluted)

Preheat oven to 350 F. Mix the Grape-Nuts and
apple juice concentrate and pat into a 9-inch pan.
Bake for 8 minutes. Cool before filling.

WHY PARENTS HAVE GREY HAIR!

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an
urgent problem with one of the main computers. He dialed the employees home
phone number and was greeted with a child's whispered, "Hello?"

Feeling put out at the inconvenience of having to talk to a youngster the
boss asked, "Is your Daddy home?" "Yes", whispered the small voice. "May I
talk with him?" the man asked. To the surprise of the boss, the small voice
whispered, "No."

Wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?" "Yes",
came the answer. "May I talk with her?" Again the small voice whispered,
"no" Knowing that it was not likely that a young child would be left home
alone, the boss decided he would just leave a message with the person who
should be there watching over the child.

"Is there any one there besides you?" the boss asked the child. "Yes"
whispered the child, "a policeman". Wondering what a cop would be doing at
his employee's home, the boss asked "May I speak with the policeman"? "No,
he's busy", whispered the child.

"Busy doing what?", asked the boss. "Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the
Fireman", came the whispered answer. Growing concerned and even worried as
he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the ear piece on the phone
the boss asked, "What is that noise?" "A hello-copper", answered the
whispering voice.

"What is going on there?", asked the boss, now alarmed. In an awed
whispering voice the child answered, "The search team just landed the
hello-copper" Alarmed, concerned and more than just a little frustrated the
boss asked, "What are they searching for"? Still whispering, the young
voice replied along with a muffled giggle: "Me"
