A NOTE FROM DONNA

We have had such a mild summer here in central Virginia. I could tell
myself it's because we now live near the mountains, but I know it is
unusually cool for July. After spending over 18 years in Alabama with half
of the year in heat, it's been so refreshing and a real treat to have it
this way.

We are looking for land to have a wildlife habitat/preserve. Since we know
little about purchasing large tracts of land, we'd love to have any links or
suggestions our subscribers might offer. We're checking into land trusts
and it seems there is much to learn. I guess being in the herb industry and
loving nature just seem to go together for us. My husband, Randal, loves to
dig in the dirt and make something grow. I love to watch things grow, talk
to the plants, and prune when it's time.

We just returned from a short trip to Pennsylvania to visit some of my
family. It's always refreshing to get away from staring at computers all
day. The weather was lovely and we enjoyed every minute of it. There's
something so appealing about being around the Amish country.

GRAPE SEED EXTRACT REDUCES CANCER CELL GROWTH

Shown to reduce cancer cell growth rate-A study performed by a
team of scientists from Creighton University, the University of
Nebraska, Omaha and Georgetown University Medical Center found
that an antioxidant derived from grape seeds, inhibits or kills
human cancer cells at least in the test tubes. Cultures of human
breast, lung and stomach cancer cells were exposed to 25 mg/1 and
50mg/1 concentrations for 72 hours resulted in cell growth rate
drops of between 37 and 48%.

STUDY SAYS MEN HELP MEN EXERCISE

For college men, exercise works on the buddy system:
If their friends exercise, they do. This was not true for
women, who relied more on support from their families.
And a researcher thinks college women do less exercise
than men do because the female buddy system isn't as
strong as the men's. This study was an attempt to get
a handle on what motivates young adults to exercise,
because too few do, and many of the exercisers drop out
after they graduate.
