We began this web site/internet thing six months ago and it has
truly been fun! We appreciate all the orders and those who have

INSECT BITE

"I was bitten by some sort of insect while asleep, but I
certainly noticed the bite. I thought it would go away like most
bites do, but it kept got redder, sorer, and harder. After a
couple of weeks I was worried and put BLACK OINTMENT on. Two days

URINARY PROBLEMS

**HEALTH IN THE NEWS**

THE FISH TAPEWORM

The fish tapeworm is the largest of the human tapeworms. A fully
developed worm may reach the length of 33 feet or more. There can
be 3,000 to 4,000 segments in one worm. The main body of the worm
-- the proglottids -- are virtually filled with male and female
reproductive organs. This worm produces an incredible number of
eggs, often more than 1,000,000 a day! The adult fish tapeworm
may live in man for 20 years or more. Humans acquire the fish
tapeworm by eating raw or uncooked fish which contain the larva.
This means sushi (raw fish) eaters: BEWARE!

This also reminds me of a story I heard a young Doctor tell
during a lecture. While she was in medical school there were
several residents who were using an herbal weight loss product
and having great results dropping lots of pounds, while being
able to still eat. A group of them decided they'd try to find
out why the herbs worked. They concluded their research when
they found that the capsules contained pieces of tapeworm.

Aren't you glad Nature's Sunshine does all the testing they
do....even though they don't have to by law? This Doctor is one
of many that have become a believer in herbs, and she recommends
ONLY Nature's Sunshine products. She spent quite a bit of time
discussing what NSP does and why she only recommends them. It
was very encouraging to me and hopefully to you!

**HERBS IN THE NEWS**

CHINESE HERBS AND IRRITABLE BOWEL

In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical
Association researchers wanted to determine the effectiveness of
Chinese herbs on irritable bowel syndrome, a common bowel
disorder with symptoms of diarrhea or constipation.

116 irritable bowel patients took part in this study. They were
randomized in 3 treatment groups. Group One received
individualized herbal formulas tailored to their specific
symptoms. Group Two received standard herbal formulas. Group
Three got placebo. Neither the patients, gastroenterologist, nor
herbalist knew who belonged to what group. Treatment lasted for
16 weeks.

The results showed that compared to the placebo group, the
patients in the treatment groups had significant improvements in
both bowel symptoms and overall well being as rated by both
patients and doctors. Patients noted that the treatments
significantly reduced the interference with life caused by their
symptoms.

Individualized herbal formulas were no more effective than
standard herbal ones. However, on follow-up 14 weeks after the
end of treatment, only the patients on the individualized herbal
formulas maintained improvement.

The researchers conclude that Chinese herbal formulas can improve
the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. (Treatment of

DEWORMING

"I'm a licensed nurse and have been interested in herbs for about
4 years. We have 70-80 goats and I've found that the chemical
products are too harsh and don't really solve any problems. I've

**FEATURED RECIPE**

Fat Free Corn Bread
From: jagordon@agsm.ucla.edu

1 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 egg or equivalent
1 cup Tofu Moo or other milk alternative
1 16 or 17 ounce can creamed corn
1/4 cup chopped onion
a couple tablespoons chopped red pepper or pimento
1 small can chilies
1 teaspoon chopped jalapeno chilies

Mix dry ingredients. Mix wet ingredients. Blend together. Bake at
425 degrees for 35-40 minutes in a 8 inch square pan or 15-20
minutes in muffin pans.

An elderly man who never practiced a natural diet and lifestyle
was at home, dying in bed, when he smelled the aroma of his
favorite chocolate chip cookies baking.

He wanted one last cookie before he died, so he fell out of
bed, crawled to the landing, rolled down the stairs, and crawled
into the kitchen where his wife was busily preparing plates of
delicious cookies.

With the last of his strength, he crawled to the table and was
just barely able to lift his withered arm up to the cookie
sheet.

As he grasped a warm, moist, chocolate chip cookie, his
favorite kind, his wife suddenly turned and whacked his hand
with a spatula.

"Why?" he whispered. "Why did you do that?"

"They're for after the funeral!" she replied.
