**DONNA'S COMMENTS**
Hi Webbers,
Webbers is what I call my web friends - I like animals a lot and it reminds me of ducks. That doesn't mean you have to 'quack' when you write me an e-mail, but I do have my computer saying 'quack' when my mail comes down.
I know that many of you have shared this newsletter with friends and I want to take the time to say "Thank You." We consider our web site as another entrance to "The Herbs Place" store we have here in Montgomery. We appreciate each visit you make and want you to know that we don't take your visits or your purchases for granted. We know that every sale we make allows us to continue to provide help and information to the world through internet access. We have some FREEBIES to offer in this month's specials at the Shopping Cart. So be sure to check it out in the next section.
We were just notified yesterday that our web site has won an award. How exciting! Somebody mentioned that I could do web designs instead of Sharing Sunshine. It would be a very lonely job. I enjoy getting to chat with you and it's being here to serve you that allows us to even have a web site, so you are our real 'reward'. Thank you for shopping at "The Herbs Place" and making it possible.
Hugs to each of you,
Donna

**PRODUCT FOCUS**
HSN-W for HAIR, SKIN AND NAILS
is rich in herbal silicon, which is important for proper utilization of calcium,
and is essential to structural system integrity. Did you know that your Hair,
Skin, and Nails are part of your structural system? This formula contains: Dulse
(seaweed), Horsetail, Sage, and Rosemary. Dulse feeds the thyroid which is associated
with healthy hair, skin and nails. Have you ever wondered why the orientals have
such beautiful complexions and shiny hair? If they live in the East and not on
the American diet, their meals include seaweeds. This combination is rich in calcium,
chromium, iron, magnesium, potassium, selenium, sodium, and zinc to nourish the
hair, skin and nails.

**SUCCESS STORIES**
"My mother was diagnosed with CHRONIC BRONCHITIS and for the past two
or three winters she has had to enter the emergency room for breathing treatments
for a few hours. I started giving her Nature's Sunshine BRN-AV the summer of 1998,
so therefore, when winter came she did not have a breathing attack. First, I am
thankful to God, then to Donna, who told me about the herbs. My husband takes
it too and it is wonderful!" PC Wilson

"I SPRAINED MY TOE/FOOT and did not want to go to ER for x-rays and all
of that, so I decided to use the Tei Fu Oil. It had worked for so many things
in our house. I rubbed it on the area and it really took the pain away. I kept
it on there every couple hours since I was seeing that it wasn't swelling the
way my husband's had month's before. I continued to do apply it for an entire
week while it was healing. Although it was purple all over it never swelled and
I was able to continue wearing my shoes and to work with it. I tried to prop it
up any time I had the opportunity. I'm really impressed with Tei Fu Oils!"

**HEALTH IN THE NEWS**
RESEARCH SHOWS MILK DOES NOT PREVENT BONE BREAKS
Washington, D.C.-Doctors and diagnosticians from the Physicians Committee for
Responsible Medicine (PCRM) will unveil a hard-hitting advertising campaign showing
that milk is useless against bone breaks.
The new ads show actual emergency room doctors setting a woman's fractured arm,
with text reading: "Milk does not protect against bone breaks." The
ads will appear throughout the Washington, D.C. area subway system, and in medical
journals, newspapers, and web sites.
The Harvard Nurses' Health Study, including 78,000 women over a 12-year period,
showed that milk drinkers had, if anything, more bone breaks than women who rarely
drank any milk at all. Other studies have shown the same result.
Osteoporosis is a serious condition, affecting more than 25 million Americans.
Each year, 1.5 million fractures of the hip, spine, wrist, and other bones will
occur as a result of this serious disease.
"It is vital to understand that milk is useless against osteoporosis, so that people will understand what really does help. Milk is no substitute for exercise, avoiding animal protein and sodium that deplete calcium, and other factors," says Neal D. Barnard, M.D., president of PCRM.
"Other excellent sources of calcium include calcium-fortified orange juice, green leafy vegetables, beans, and calcium supplements," states Patricia Bertron, R.D., director of nutrition for PCRM.

**VITAMINS IN THE NEWS**
A large prospective study shows for the first time that VITAMIN K LOWERS THE RISK OF HIP FRACTURE among middle-aged and older women. Even more surprising, it demonstrates that iceberg lettuce has nutritional value. Vitamin K, found mainly in lettuce, is required to form the bone protein osteocalcin and may also reduce calcium excretion and bone loss. Researchers suspected it might also protect against osteoporosis in post menopausal women.
The women got their Vitamin K from iceburg lettuce (29%), broccoli (15%), spinach (18%), brussels sprouts (5%), and greens (4%). Women who ate lettuce each day had only 55% the risk of hip fracture as those who ate it once a week. The women's median daily Vitamin K intake was 163 mcg, much more than the 59-82 mcg. found in general population surveys. (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 1999 Jan;69:74-9)
Donna's Note: This certainly validates why Alfalfa has always been such a good herb for arthritis, osteoporosis, and joint problems. It's rich in Vitamin K. Liquid Chlorophyll is made from alfalfa. You might also make note that Nature's Sunshine Calcium-Magnesium has a base of veggies rich in Vitamin K, and Nature's Sunshine Calcium Plus has a base of alfalfa. As usual, Nature's Sunshine has been on top of things for a long time!

**HERBS FOR PETS**
"My 4-year-old black male neutered lovable cat has had a LUMP/TUMOR/or something on his tail for the past year. He usually was not bothered by it, but I noticed it had grown and that he would occasionally lick it. He also didn't like for me to touch him on his back close to his tail and definitely not touch the lump. I decided to put GOLDEN SALVE on it topically and use All Cell Detox once per day each evening. After 3 weeks of treatment, he jumped in my lap one night with a wet spot on his tail. Upon inspection I noticed that it had burst and was oozing a brownish liquid. I wiped it off and noticed the lump had flattened and there was a hole where it had burst. Later I checked it again and noticed a white liquid coming from it. The next day it was still flat and in the process of healing. He also allows me to look at it now and doesn't seem bothered by me touching his back. I am so glad that I chose to use herbs instead of taking him to the vet and risk him losing his tail and going through all kinds of testing and drugs." Robin S.
We now have a PET AREA on our web site that has success stories and a long list of herbs that can be used for pets. Be sure to mention the natural alternative to pet lovers....it's a simpler way to go! http://www.theherbsplace.com/Welcome_to_The_Herbs_Place_for_Pets_sp_63.html

**MOTIVATIONAL MOMENT**
WINNING THE RACE
A few years ago, at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically
or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the l00-yard dash. At
the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash but with a relish to run
the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one little boy who stumbled
on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry. The other eight
heard the boy cry. They slowed down and looked back. Then they all turned around
and went back. Every one of them. One girl with Downs Syndrome bent down and kissed
him and said, "This will make it better." Then all nine linked arms
and walked together to the finish line. Everyone in the stadium stood, and the
cheering went on for several minutes. People who were there are still telling
the story. Why? Because deep down we know this one thing... What matters in this
life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course.

**FUNNY OF THE DAY**
A police officer stopped a lady for speeding and asked her very nicely if he could see her license. She replied in a huff, "I wish you guys could get your act together. Just yesterday you guys took my license away, and today you expect me to show it to you?"
Blessings of Peace and Health to You Today!
