How
Does Stomach Comfort Compare to Other Options?
Millions of people at
one time or another suffer from problems with excess stomach acid. Excess acid
can be triggered by stress or certain foods like alcohol, caffeine, chocolate,
high fat meals, orange juice or tomato juice. The results are problems like heartburn,
acute stomach pain and acid reflux (where stomach acid comes back up in the esophagus
and throat).
At these times, many people turn to over-the-counter (OTC)
antacid products. Unfortunately, these OTC antacids contain many harmful ingredients.
Some contain aluminum, but even those which are based on calcium contain chemicals
like mineral oil, sucrose (refined sugar), chemical dyes, polyethylene glycol
and so forth. Stomach Comfort offers the antiacid benefits of calcium carbonate,
one of nature's best antacids without the other chemical ingredients. Here is
a run downn on the ingredients in this natural antacid. Calcium carbonate - Although not recognized as the best source of calcium for assimilation and utilization by the body, calcium carbonate is effective in neutralizing excess stomach acid. It is the most common active ingredient in OTC antacids because it provides symptomatic relief from heartburn. It does not address some of the underlying causes of excess stomach acid, but other ingredients in this formula do. Alginic Acid is a natural mucilage derived from kelp. Mucilage absorbs liquids and irritating substances to soothe tissue. It helps protect the mucus membrane linings of the stomach and esophagus. It is especially beneficial for soothing acid reflux. As a side benefit, it also helps to remove heavy metals from the body. Slippery Elm bark is a mild and nourishing food that soothes and coats the mucus membranes of the stomach and intestinal tract. Not only does it help to absorb excess stomach acid and help it mix better with food, it eases irritation along the entire digestive tract. Ginger root has long been used to treat a wide variety of digestive disorders. Ginger stimulates digestive function. It improves circulation to the digestive organs and increases production of enzymes and digestive fluids. It helps relieve nausea and settles the stomach to allay vomiting. It may seem contradictory to have an herb which increases production of digestive fluids. Keep in mind, however, that hydrochloric acid is essential both to the breakdown of proteins and the assimilation of trace minerals in the body. It is not desirable to over-neutralize the acid as this can cause improper digestion and create other health problems (such as food allergies and mineral deficiencies). Thus, ginger helps to balance the action of the formula. Papaya fruit serves a similar purpose. Papaya contains natural enzymes which contribute to the digestion of proteins in the stomach. It also helps to ensure that the neutralizing of stomach acid won't shut down essential digestive functions. Licorice root has soothing properties that help to reduce inflammation and irritation in the body. It has even been used to help soothe and heal ulcers. Licorice also improves digestive function, strengthening the body's ability to assimilate protein and turn it into muscle. Another benefit of licorice is that it helps to stabilize the adrenal glands which can serve to reduce stress, a common cause of excess acid. The final ingredient in this combination is wintergreen oil. This oil not only imparts a pleasant taste to the tablets, it is also an antiinflammatory agent and a topical analgesic. It contains natural salicylates which ease stomach pain and reduce irritation to membranes. Usage: Take two tablets when experiencing symptoms of excess stomach acidity. It is important to recognize that burning pains in the stomach can also be a sign of a deficiency of digestive acids and secretions. Deficient stomach acid causes dull, burning pains and is usually accompanied by a great deal of intestinal gas. Another sign of "acid indigestion" due to a deficiency of stomach acid is when the food tends to sit "heavy" on the stomach for a long period of time. If you have any of these symptoms and find that Stomach-Comfort fails to bring relief, investigate the possibility of deficient digestive secretions. Remember that frequent digestive problems may be a sign of other, more serious digestive disorders. If problems persist consult a competent health care practitioner for additional advice.
