Nature's Sunshine's Glucosamine includes Cat's Claw (Una de Gato), an herb that grows in the Peruvian rain forest, known for its anti-inflammatory activity that brings relief and healing to those suffering from arthritis. This woody vine has alkaloids which enhance the immune response and works very mildly without the side effects of medications. The formula is 400 mg. of glucosamine hydrochloride with 50 mg. of una de gato. A natural compound made in the body, glucosamine stimulates the growth of new cartilage, especially important to those needing more strength in their joints or wherever cartilage is found. At least one of its forms is also found in mucus, the body's own protective and cleansing liquid. Oral glucosamine is readily absorbed into both the blood and cells. The molecule is very small, easily diffused, and water-soluble. Since the exciting discovery that glucosamine stimulates repair of damaged cartilage, it has been administered by injection. Later, it was determine amounts are equally effective. No more having to report to the hospital for "the needle." Scientists at Nature's Sunshine wanted to present this nutritional aid with one more advantage-una de gato from highland rainforests of Peru. Known also as "cat's claw," the bark of this large, tropical vine was found by the Ashaninka. Indians to have extraordinary benefits. Scientific studies seem to substantiate claimed results. The powerful alkaloids found in the bark are not only wonderfully tonic, but they also specifically feed the immune, digestive and structural systems. Una de gato has become one of the world's supreme tonic herbs, comparable to shark cartilage, pau d'arco, Eleuthero, reishi and shiitake mushrooms. While already popular in South America, una de gato is being studied in universities in Germany, Italy, England and Austria for evidence of its believed anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is being harvested in such a way as to guarantee perpetuation of this valuable plant in the tropical rainforest. Glucosamine with una de gato make a joint effort to provide nutrients hard to obtain elsewhere. Why Does Nature's Sunshine Use Glucosamine Hydrochloride (HCL)? Glucosamine Sulfate, which is commonly used in Glucosamine products, is very unstable and must be stabilized, as a result it is only 74% pure. Glucosamine HCL is 99%+ pure, it is stable and no other compounds are needed. Both products are derived from crab shells. The suggested daily dosage is 1,500 mg. of Glucosamine Hydrochloride. In order to get the equivalent amount of glucosamine found in 1,500 mg. of the hydrochloride, you would need to take 2,608 mg of the sulfate. Nature's Sunshine feels that it is important to provide you with the purest form of product, whether it is herbs, vitamins or any other type of nutritional product.

Quality IssuesMany people want to know if our ingredients are organic. Organic is a good standard, but Nature's Sunshine goes beyond organic with detailed testing on each and every raw ingredient used in every Nature's Sunshine Product (NSP). The focus is on purity (unadulterated raw materials), full potency, and safety (bacterial, heavy metal, radiation, chemical contamination and more). The raw materials and the finished products undergo more testing than other companies even consider. There are 588 tests used to guarantee the quality standards that NSP insists on. A few of the main tests are: Ash testing, Gamma counter, Dissolution testing, E. Coli testing, Microbiological testing, Heavy Metal testing, Microscopy, Infrared Spectometry, Moisture testing, pH testing, Potency testing, Tablet disintegration, Volatile oil, Environmental testing, Gas Chromotography, Total Bacteria testing, Liquid Chromotography, Acid insoluble testing, and Finished Product Auditing.
