Scientists have discovered about 5,000 different enzymes, but they think more than 20,000 may exist. Each specific enzyme configuration can only control a single reaction in the body. That's why taking enzyme supplements that lack the ones you need won't help. Nature's Sunshine isolated those enzymes that are most needed by the body, especially as aging shrinks enzyme-making capacity. A common problem is eating over-processed foods that lack enzymes, thereby adding an enzyme manufacturing burden to the digestive organs. Nature's Sunshine Food Enzymes formulation is designed to provide major enzymes commonly needed for today's American diet. Pepsin is used for the predigestion of proteins. Betaine hydrochloride (HCl) adds to the stomach's natural acidity for digesting proteins. Pancreatin further digests proteins, carbohydrates and fats in a alkaline environment within the small intestine. Mycozyme digests starches. Papain and Bromelain also digest protein. Bile salt is included to supplement the secretion of the gall bladder, helping to emulsify fats (i.e., make them water soluble). Lipase further processes fats. Bromelain has a wide range of effects besides digestion of proteins. Among other important benefits, it counteracts inflammation internally and externally, helps remove dead tissue from burns, prevents excessive swelling, relaxes smooth muscles, and helps prevent unnecessary blood clotting. One tablet will digest a minimum of 30 grams of protein, 30 grams of carbohydrates and 20 grams of fat. Each tablet of Food Enzymes supplies: Betaine HCI - 162 mg.

Lipase - 15 mg.
Mycozyme - 90 mg.
