Nature's Sunshine Para-Cleanse

Para-Cleanse is the only cleansing product on the market that contains an extract of Paw Paw for more complete results in cleansing parasites. The herbs in Para-Cleanse work synergistically to create an environment that supports the health and viability of "healthy" microorganisms, also known as intestinal flora. Other formulas included in the cleanse packet make the intestines inhospitable to foreign invaders, and help cleanse debris and lubricate the colon to optimize intestinal function. What's Happening Here at Bluebird Cove
*********************************

We have had a mouse in the garage in the past and have let it there to entertain our cats. They never catch him since there is plenty of cover against all walls for the mouse to hide. It sure kept the kitties interested, but we would humanely trap it and release it a few miles from here. I always know if there's one there when the cats want to spend some time out there. So a couple weeks ago, we put the trap out again and in a day we had a cute little deer mouse in it. Here's a link to a picture of a deer mouse: http://www.sgnhs.org/mouse.html

I knew he'd been there for awhile since the cracked corn bag continually had a little hole chewed in it. I would tape it and a few days later it would have a new hole.

The problem we had with this little guy was that it was so cold outside when we got him that I couldn't think of releasing him into the cold without a nest and cached food. They prepare for winter so to let him out into the woods when there are no seeds left and all the burrows probably taken, would be cruel and I would've worried that he'd frozen.

So, we decided to put him in one of the brush piles out back so he'd have cover and, of course, I tossed in some sunflower seeds and cracked corn before we opened the cage. Every time I get one of these little guys in the cage, I think of all those years I was petrified of mice -- and there was no reason other than the fact that my mom was afraid of them. We never once had a mouse in our home ... but I heard about that fear and picked it up like it came with the family. Rather silly when I think about it now, but I'm so glad I have plenty of life left to enjoy these little guys.

Have a great March! We're coming out of winter!

Oldest Tree in Palace of Versailles Down After 324 years

(AFP) - The oldest tree in the grounds of the palace of Versailles -- Marie-Antoinette's oak -- was pulled down more than 320 years after it was planted.

Measuring 35 meters (115 feet) high and 5.5 meters (18 feet) in circumference, the tree died of dehydration in the heat wave of 2003 after being deprived of surrounding cover in the devastating storms of December 1999.

Planted in 1681, the oak was named after the ill-fated wife of King Louis XVI who reputedly liked to enjoy its shade. It is to replaced by another of the same species.

Two tractors took less than two minutes to topple the giant to the ground.

"There is a lot of sadness because our job is to manage the trees and look after their health. I can't help thinking of all the generations of gardeners who watched it grow," said head-gardener Alain Baraton.

Tips for Better Feeding
by Bill Thompson, III, Editor, Bird Watcher's Digest

Black-oil sunflower seed is the most widely used bird seed, popular with the greatest number of bird species. Its thin shell and large nutmeat are ideal for most feeder species.

Offer a variety of seeds and food in a variety of appropriate feeders (sunflower seed in tube, hopper, or platform feeders, thistle in tube feeders, peanuts in peanut feeders, suet in suet cages, and mixed seed on platform feeders or scattered on dry ground).

Offer the thick-shelled gray-striped sunflower seed to cardinals, grosbeaks, jays, chickadees, titmice, and nuthatches.

Offer safflower seed to cardinals. Squirrels and blackbirds in many parts of the continent do not like it.

If your feeder is overrun with blackbirds, pigeons, or house sparrows, stop offering mixed seed on the ground or on platform feeders. Feed only black-oil sunflower seed in tube or hopper feeders until the problem species disperse.

Don't offer so-called wild bird mixes in tube feeders. These are better fed on platforms or out of hopper feeders. Birds which prefer sunflower seed will just empty the feeder to get at the sunflower seeds.

Make a brush pile near your feeder to make sparrows, towhees, and other shy birds feel more at home, but be sure it won't harbor roaming cats.

Add natural features to your feeding station, such as branches to perch on, to make birds feel more at ease.

Cell Phone Turns Into a Sunflower

Scientists say they have come up with a cell phone cover that will grow into a sunflower when thrown away.

"Materials company Pvaxx Research & Development, at the request of U.S.-based mobile phone maker Motorola (MOT.N), has come up with a polymer that looks like any other plastic, but which degrades into soil when discarded.

Researchers at the University of Warwick in Britain then helped to develop a phone cover that contains a sunflower seed, which will feed on the nitrates that are formed when the polyvinylalcohol polymer cover turns to waste."

More than 650 million cell phones will be sold this year with a good portion of those being thrown away in two years. One thing worth pointing out is that the article only talks about the cover being biodegradeable, but what about the rest of the phone?

Muse On Nature

"We are still too ignorant of ultimate consequences to understand in full the urgent need to protect even the most inconspicuous forms of life so we do not diminish the rich variety of biological resources that continue to exist. Nevertheless, the urgency is there, and we need to impress upon the public consciousness that extinction is an act of awesome finality. Extinction is one of the few processes that man cannot reverse."
