Cleansing for Health

Hippocrates did it! So did Jesus, Plato and Socrates. These wise men routinely fasted and employed other detoxification methods to enhance both their spiritual and physical well-being. A detox program may be just the remedy to help you cope with the temperature changes and boost your immune system for the winter months. Learn more about cleansing

What's Happening Here at Bluebird Cove
*********************************

It's wonderful to have friends that love nature. We share discoveries and my one friend, Margaret Wachenfeld, shares the best books. She has a brother who gives her very cool books and I've been blessed to borrow a couple.

The last one was on hummingbirds with tons of pictures of birds that had wintered over in her sunroom which she set up to accommodate hummingbirds that were late migrating and stranded in bad weather. The stories were great, but the photos were incredible.

If you haven't visited our place via the internet, here's our photo album.

Possums

Yes they are wild, yes they can bite !  But, they are not rats and they are not carriers of rabies. They help keep our planet clean and free from being over run by creepy crawly insects and other dead animals.  They are our planets natural garbage men.  They can catch rabies, as can anything, but the chances are slim to none.

If you were to encounter a possum wandering in your yard and possibly eating your pets food on the porch...leave it alone.  Possums are wandering animals, so their time at your home is short.

If the possum does return and it worries you, just start putting your pets food up at night.  The possum would rather get an easy meal than have to" hunt" for it.

Get more facts about possums from this possum rescue website.

Nature's Bounty For Us

Smell!

Smell is our most potent sense. Smell is 10,000 times more acute than our other senses. It connects us to memory (like Grandma's apple pies, and hot cocoa on a cold morning in front of the fire). It affects our moods, desires and energy.

Like breathing exercises, it takes deliberate effort to slow down enough to notice the world'd aromas. Here's a few ideas for enjoying life through your sense of smell:

Make a favorite recipe from childhood and take time to smell it!

Keep fresh flowers on your desk, kitchen counter, or place you spend much of the day.

Plant fragrant plants in your garden to pick and enjoy, such as lavender,
rosemary, basil, lilacs, gardenias, roses, honeysuckles.

Use essential oils to brighten mood or to enhance concentration. (Link for recipes)

Check out an old book at the library and appreciate its musty aroma

Take a walk just to focus on smells. Whether its peanuts on the street corner or the pine needles in the forest, follow your nose.

Did you know that exercise makes your sense of smell more acute? So does being pregnant, but a jog is less of a commitment. :-)

Muse On Nature
*************************

" A few minutes ago every tree was excited, bowing to the roaring storm,
waving, swirling, tossing their branches in glorious enthusiasm like
worship. But though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their
songs never cease. Every hidden cell is throbbing with music and life,
every fiber thrilling like harp strings, while incense is ever flowing from
the balsam bells and leaves. No wonder the hills and groves were God's
first temples...."

Trees for the Future

The world's forests are being rapidly destroyed. Each year, an area as large as New England becomes a barren wasteland.

Trees for the Future's people-to-people program assists families to improve their living standards through projects that also bring lasting benefits to the global environment. They revitalize lands and help restore dignity to the people living off of these lands.

You can provide seeds and on-site training in villages where millions of trees are being planted each year. The Tree Pals program get children here and in developing countries working together to plant trees. Trees cost about $.12 each to plant.

Do you love children? Do you love trees? Visit the site and pass it on to somebody else.
